Consumer v. Community First Credit Union (False and Inaccurate Credit Reporting)

Written by Ben Dupré | June 22, 2016 | Inaccurate Credit Reporting

False and Inaccurate Credit Reporting in CaliforniaWhen someone goes through a major life event (loss of a job, health problems, etc.), often times it leads to a significant financial hardship. And for some, this financial hardship can turn into a financial nightmare. Federal consumer bankruptcy protections offer those in such dire need a chance for a fresh start.

But a financial fresh start cannot be complete unless the credit report also shows a fresh start. And for Plaintiff, Mr. Sanders, this was not happening. After successfully paying his monthly payments through a bankruptcy chapter 13 for years and completing his case, Mr. Sanders obtained his credit reports. And he was then hit with a shock.

Mr. Sanders alleged in the lawsuit that Community First Credit Union and Equifax were falsely reporting on Mr. Sander’s credit report that he still owed thousands of dollars. Mr. Sanders went on to allege that he disputed this directly to the credit union and to Equifax, yet the credit union ignored him and Equifax falsely verified that he owed. Mr. Sanders went on to state in his complaint that as a result of this, he suffered a range of negative emotions, including anxiety, embarrassment, anger, and more.

Mr. Sander’s case was successfully resolved for a confidential amount.
